Delivering Education in Conflict: A Case of Boko Haram and North East Nigeria

Mariam is the former Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Humanitarian Intervention and the CEO/Executive Secretary of the North East Children’s Trust (NECT). She plays a strategic role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North East zone affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and led the Federal Government’s Recovery and Peace Building Assessment in collaboration with the World Bank and the European Union. 

At NECT, she leads an integrated ecosystem of quality education for orphaned and vulnerable children who have been displaced as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in North East Nigeria. She is an Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellow, of the African Leadership Institute, a dentist with a Master degree in Public Health, has a Post Graduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership, and an Executive Masters in Conflict & Fragility Management. She is also currently a Fellow in the Advanced Leadership for Social Impact program at Queen's University.
