In a tradition started in the 1980s, the Rotary Club of Kingston honours individuals who have made significant volunteer contributions to Rotary and/or the community. The club recognizes exceptional community service every year at an awards dinner and celebration.
Each recipient of the Community Service Award is recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow - the highest honour a club can bestow on a person, either inside or outside the club. The PHF acknowledges "service above self" which that individual has offered to their community, their nation, or to the world. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary and this program was created to fund many Rotary Foundation programs. [See the section on "International Service"]. Members of the club must have collectively contributed US$1,000 to the Rotary Foundation for the privilege of recognizing a person in this way.
